"Kids Solve Bank's Problem of Disabled Access"
"Kids Solve Disabled Access Problems"
Last year my brother's (Jasper's) Community Problem Solving Team (CmPS) took their project to a CmPS National competition. They competed against team from all over NZ and won. They're now taking their project to represent NZ at the international competition at the Michigan University, 1st - 5th of June. The team have spent the last few years researching and working hard on the community problem they discovered, the two kids in power chairs at their school cold not access the life education van, a traveling education program that teaches kids in NZ about their body. After heaps of work, interviews and research they came up with a solution of a portable lift. They are now working to raise funds for their lift. Please donate to their project every dollar helps! (you will need a credit card, kids, ask your parents to!) and wish them luck in the comments. Team Access In the News:

My school holds a production every two (or some number like that) years and this year I'm super excited to say that I'll be working backstage! My last post was about musicals, but that has nothing to do with this at all. For some reason I love the fact that there are all these unacknowledged people behind every show, the sound crew, the lighting crew, the orchestra, and the backstage crew. So I'm pretty excited, and as an extra bonus I'll get the see the show on every night it plays. Rehearsals for backstage have stared this week, although everyone else began a a term ago. Personally I think it'll be amazing to see the show come together.
That's mostly it for this weeks excitement. Although we are filming some stuff for an assessment Adidas commercial, which should be interesting. The chatter of the audience stops as the lights dim. The music begins and the actors dance and you're taken into a new world. I said a few weeks ago that, after re-reading Harry Potter I'd become almost obsessed (still am!). But recently my love of musicals has re surfaced. I don't know what it is that makes me love them so much, the music, the lights, the costumes, the acting, the way it all comes together so beautifully. I can't exactly say I'm a fan of musicals, or maybe I can. I've only been to two, CATS and WICKED (although I saw that twice). I can name a few, half of them I've no idea what they are about, I'll give it ago anyway...... Cats, Wicked, Hairspray, Chess, Greece, Annie, The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, The Lion King, Legally Blonde, Oliver, Priscilla, Beauty and the Beast. Wicked and Cats, being the only two musicals I've seen are my favorites. Wicked, I just love it........ I'm the sort of person who will go around belting out Defying Gravity, Memory, or quietly humming For Good, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer or Dancing through life, not matter that the people around me have no idea what I'm on about. Have a look through the videos below, some of my fav songs from CATS and WICKED, and also some behind the scenes stuff, I find very interesting. Long post, actually lots of videos post. I hope you enjoyed and find as much magic in musicals as I do, Discover them further, if it's not as rappelling to you, never mind, have a good day anyway.
I've got it easy compared to some people. That doesn't stop it from feeling hard sometimes.
Whoa, this week seems to have flown by, and ti's been crazy. I can't even think of all the homework I had, okay, it wasn't that much...... BUT it felt like it! It's so nice to come home on a Friday read and relax, and try not to think of everything I still have to do! The Education Perfect 'Language Perfect' World Championships began this week. It's crazy world wide competition, really fun. You compete in different languages for points, you get points for yourself and your school. Last year MHJC (my school) placed 1st in the world, this year..... well, we're not doing as well, never mind! Have fun and it's all good. I haven't had that much time on my hands to do anything exciting....... maybe something worth writing about will pop up. Check later from updates on my other pages. For now though, my laziness is getting the better of me, (and also my mum wants me off the computer) I'm gonna go lie down and read..... I may not be the most flexible (and it's not flexibility that determines a dancer), or the most talented, or the strongest dancer in the class. But I am the dancer who puts in 110% effort in each class and that's what counts. Dancing for me is a passion more than a sport, competition or career. I love it! It's a way to express emotions that works for so many people. "Dance like there's no one watching" this quote is everything I dance for. I dance for me and no one else, because it makes me happy. Now that we've done all that stuff, very important stuff mind you. Being who you are is the most important thing, along with a few other that don't need mention right now. If you've been reading, (I'm not sure if I've mentioned it) last weekend (7th and 8th) was the 2016 Hamilton Phoenix International Dance Workshop. As I said so many times last year when I got back, this workshop is amazing. It's a great experience for any dancer. What stood out to me the most this year was the message each and every teacher repeated to us in every class. "Yes, of course we want you to learn the choreography and do the steps right, that's part of dance. But we also want you to dance in your style, to step up and vote for yourself. To dance to be you" This is what lead to all the 'inspirational, motivational' stuff at the top. It may seem the stuff everyone goes on about but the thing is, it's 200% true. Go for it and be you! Anyway Phoenix 2016 was the best I could have asked for. The lessons were great. The teachers were awesome. The choreography was next to perfect. We even danced to the 'Hairspray' song, You can't stop the beat, a personal favorite of mine. That's all I can say really because to try and put the experience into words would be almost impossible. DANCERS: "Put you'er heart and soul into your dance because you love it and you have passion. When you'er tired passion gets you through. DANCE BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT" P.S: I'm thinking of doing a 'Harry Potter Week'. Keep an eye out for details
P.P.S: Do you like my knew signature thingy? Let me know! Mum went shopping yesterday and brought home some chalkboard speech bubble stickers to go in the toilet down our (kids) end of the house. As soon as we saw them we were off, Adrian and I both wrote basically the same thing, Me: "Men: Don't underestimate the distance" Adrian: "Do not miss" What better quotes to have in a loo. :) In the end Adrian stuck with his and I changed mine to one of my all time favorite quotes (of which there are a lot) "What if I fall?" "Oh my darling, what if you fly?" I also received the most awesome of awesome bracelet from my "Infinity Friend" Campbell. I've always wanted a bracelet with the infinity sign and one from one of my best friends (to symbolize infinite friendship is the best I could ask for)
I'm also excited because I'll be going to the Phoenix Dance Workshop in Hamilton for the 2nd time! I went last year and it was full on and amazing! Keep Wishing On Suns, they're like stars but with more brightness and fun Solana |
